Sir Alex Ferguson 25 Years Story | League Cup 2009

League Cup 2009

Less than a year after the drama of Moscow, United emerged victorious from another penalty shoot-out with a Carling Cup triumph over Tottenham.

Having reached the final with a selection of youngsters, Sir Alex opted for consistency against Spurs and picked Darron Gibson, Danny Welbeck and Jonny Evans in his starting XI.

Ben Foster was the hero, though, pulling off a string of impressive stops before distinguishing himself during a dramatic finale, pulling off a superb save from Jamie O’Hara’s spot-kick.

Victory at Wembley was followed by an 18th League title, though the boss was unable to avoid disappointment in the UEFA Champions League final, going down 2-0 to Barcelona.
