Sir Alex Ferguson 25 Years Story | League 1996-1997

League 1996/97

A tough title slog but United led them all home with Eric Cantona signing off with another Premiership trophy.

“I have reached the pinnacle of my career,” said the Frenchman as he waved ‘au revoir’ to football and he was a key figure as the Reds ended up seven points clear of challengers Newcastle, Arsenal and Liverpool.

Three consecutive defeats in the autumn led to calls of a crisis but cream rose to the top with David Beckham starting to fulfil his potential and Cantona still capable of moments of sheer genius – including his chip against Sunderland.

We hope you enjoy re-living some of the best action from the 1996/97 season in our free video above.
